I thought it captured the spirit of Moore’s book wonderfully, and I think that most of the reviewers who have been cold to it–A. O. Scott and Anthony Lane in particular–just didn’t understand the story, because the things they complained about were the whole point of the story. Sure, the story could have been told much better if, instead of a nearly three hour film, it had been a 12 hour miniseries, but the fact that Snyder managed to get so much of the book, including a lot of the intricacies surrounding just how horrible these heroes actually are, into the film was far more than I’d ever hoped for.
