I really liked Elizabeth Alexander's poem and I liked the way she read it - nervousness and all. And Suzan-Lori Parks' poem was great as was Kwamwe Dawes'. Too bad all three of them couldn't read at the inaugural and maybe do away with Rick Warren.

Susan Lori Parks was one of my professors in college in the nineties. What an experience! She was phenomenal. The course was called "A to B - reading as geography" or something close to that. One of the best courses I had in my entire college and grad school career.

I liked Alexander's poem, the NPR poems (especially the one by Gayle Danley) were fine, but Kwamwe Dawes' poem absolutely blew me away.! Wow! I put a link to it on Goodreads, since people there have been discussing inaugural poems in general an specifically Alexander's poem. Dawes' poem could be discussed for days - it's superb. And the reading of the poem in the video by such a diverse group was just the icing on the cake.

I hope that Obama has received a copy of this poem. Since you know Dawes, Claudia, please let him know that he has a new fan. And ask him when he's coming to Atlanta to read it!

Guess you can tell I liked it. huh?

In the interest of full disclosure, I should state that I know Kwame Dawes and I've had the wonderful opportunity of being in Elizabeth Alexander's literature class for a semester. Neither one of them knows that I wrote this post, but yes, I'm biased!
